Reflections from China

By: Warner H. Brown, Jr. on 6/7/2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I am eagerly looking forward to seeing many of you during our yearly family reunion, the Annual Conference Session, in Sacramento less than two weeks from now. It has been a busy Pentecost season, and I have been blessed by the Spirit's activity in the lives of United Methodists working to transform the world in the name of the resurrected Christ. In recent weeks, I have spent time with the other active bishops in a retreat that included a trip to the California/Mexico border. We also shared Communion with friends from the Methodist Church of Mexico.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Psalm 55 verse 22 says to "cast your burden upon the Lord, and God will sustain you; God will never allow the righteous to be shaken." Like you, I have been watching the devastation caused by tornadoes to our brothers and sisters in Oklahoma. At this time, more than 20 people have been found dead including several children.

Boston Marathon Tragedy

By: Warner H. Brown, Jr. on 4/16/2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Just like you, I was shocked, saddened, and disturbed to see images coming out of Boston yesterday of our brothers and sisters in sheer panic after two bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon killing three people, including an eight-year-old boy, and wounding 176 people. Then, I awoke this morning to the news of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in southeast Iran where at least 40 people are feared dead.

Passion in Jesus Christ, Compassion for All

By: Warner H. Brown, Jr. on 2/25/2010

"Passion in Jesus Christ, Compassion for All" is our Conference vision here in the California-Nevada region of The United Methodist Church. What that means is that we endeavor to be a people who open our hearts to the world and welcome our brothers and sisters, wherever they're from – and who open our minds to cross the boundaries that divide us, just as the doors of our churches are open to all. But church is not just a building; it is a place of connection. Church is here, in this site, this place of community. It is a safe place, and we invite you to engage in conversation with us here. As disciples of Jesus Christ, our hearts, our minds, and our doors are always open.
