Part-time Position

Come join the Los Gatos United Methodist Church, a reconciling 550 member congregation for an exciting and challenging opportunity as Director of Childrens Ministry.

Purpose:
Bringing up children in the Christian faith is a vital ministry in the church. The childrens ministry director establishes and oversees an effective childrens ministry to the church and works to provide an outreach to the children of the community.

Responsible to:
Senior Pastor and SPR

Description of duties:
  • Study and understand the spiritual and developmental needs of children within the church and in the greater community the church serves.
  • Coordinate ideas into a plan to provide ministries to children, ages Pre-school through 5th grade.
  • Organize all childrens programs and ministries such as nursery care, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, annual Christmas program, other special events and child care for special church events.
  • Represent children and bring their needs and concerns before the Church Council and the Childrens Ministry Team.
  • Work with the senior pastor and/or SPR to determine short-term and long-term goals for the churchs childrens ministry.
  • Attend weekly ministry staff meetings.
  • Recruit and retain a willing and enthusiastic staff of volunteer childrens workers.
  • Provide yearly and on-going training and support for volunteers in the childrens ministry.
  • Prepare and administer the annual childrens ministry budget.
  • Assess and purchase curriculum, supplies for childrens ministry programs. (nursery, Sunday school and VBS).
  • Distribute weekly teaching curriculum to volunteers in a timely fashion; minimally one week prior to their teaching activity.
  • Maintain the churchs Safe Sanctuary policy, including criminal background checks for staff and volunteers and implementing training on child protection, health issues, and other procedures to ensure the safety and security of children participating in the churchs ministries.
  • Remain current on trends, teaching methods, materials, promotional ideas, administrative methods, and other childrens ministry techniques, and implement these as appropriate.
  • Set up appropriate communication methods to stay connected with current children and families and to reach out to potential families to ensure the growth of the ministry.
Time requirements
This is a part-time salaried position requiring presence on Sunday mornings, weekly staff meetings and special events. The remaining time and location of the schedule is flexible.

Seeking Contemporary worship musicians

Healing Stream, Burlingame United Methodist Churchs praise band, is auditioning instrumentalists and vocalists. We are looking for the following worship musicians: Keyboards, Bass, Drums, Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, Banjo, Accordion, as well as male and female vocalists.

Healing Stream has been leading worship and performing for over 10 years. They have an extensive repertoire of Christian Rock that includes original music, Praise and Worship standards, Bluegrass and Old Time gospel.

Healing Stream leads a musical worship service Friday Evenings at a very popular worship event called Evenings at the River. They also lead congregational singing at BUMCs Contemporary worship service on Sunday mornings at 9:30am. The band is a high caliber band that has played venues outside of worship to enthusiastic response.

Family Ministries Director

Sierra Pines United Methodist Church, Grass Valley, CA seeks a Director of Family Ministries.  This is a part-time position, 20 hrs/week.  Under the direction of the SPUMC Pastor, this position is responsible for guiding families, children, youth as disciples of Jesus Christ. Pay rate is approx. $15.00/hr.  SPUMC is a small-medium sized church, young and vibrant, which puts great emphasis on growth through attracting families with children and youth.  The church is located in a small, friendly community which enjoys the beauty and recreational opportunities of the American River and surrounding Sierra Nevada Foothills.

Typical Responsibilities include:

Coordinates all aspects of family, children, and youth ministries, including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, holiday programs, weekly youth groups and family community events.  

In accordance with UMC values, church leaders and pastor, reviews, chooses and purchases youth/children curriculum.

Communicates to parents, church congregants, activities regarding family, youth, and children through media such as website, church newsletter and bulletins.

Works with pastor and Worship Committee to involve all youth, children and families in worship.

Prepares an annual budget for the Finance Committee each calendar year.

Develops a vision for children/youth program.

Makes contacts in community to build relationships and build a stronger presence which enables future growth.

Qualifications:

Job Announcement for Youth Group Leader

United Methodist Church (UMC) of Davis

Under the direction of the UMCD Pastor and the Children and Youth Ministries Director, the Youth Group Leader is responsible for the development and implementation of activities that nurture the well-being and spiritual growth of the youth (seventh through twelfth grades) at Davis UMC. The position is hourly and will average approximately 10 hours per week, 11 months per year, with up to an additional 100 hours potentially available, with prior approval. Pay rate is $12.00/hour. Hours each week will fluctuate in accordance with planning and involvement in special events such as the youth mission trip, fundraisers and service projects. Position is subject to a background and fingerprint clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Youth Group Leader must:
  • Share the mission, progressive Christian theology and social justice concerns of UMCD and be able to communicate same (in word and deed) with the youth;
  • Have experience working with youth in a leadership or counseling capacity;
  • Possess an understanding of the differing maturation of junior and senior high youth and be able to adjust expectations and interactions accordingly;
  • Enjoy worshiping, teaching, motivating, nurturing, playing and working with youth; 
  • Be well grounded in his/her own faith journey;
  • Possess good verbal and written skills; and 
  • Demonstrate an ability to recruit volunteers and build constructive relationships with teens and adults.
TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
Work under the direction of the Children & Youth Ministries Director to:
  • Prepare for and implement an engaging faith-based evening youth group that is consistent with the theological and social justice principles of DUMC, involves youth in planning and execution, promotes camaraderie among youth members, and appropriately supports youth in their individual faith journeys;
  • Attend the second Sunday morning worship service and welcome youth without families present to join you. Stay after church for 15 minutes to participate in fellowship time and communicate with youth and others from the service;
  • Develop strategies to nurture the Christian leadership skills of youth and develop supportive faith-focused relationships with youth, as appropriate, by communicating with them during the week, and keeping them informed of youth group events; 
  • Build the youth program and work with youth and adult volunteers to engage new youth and to sustain and strengthen ongoing youth ministries;
  • Ensure that parents are regularly informed about youth activities and that permission slips and Safe Sanctuary policies are respected;
  • Develop and implement youth fundraisers, youth service projects; worship participation, outreach activities, and youth participation in district and conference-wide events;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of a one-week mission trip or service-learning project;
  •  Publicize programs and events; keep the congregation informed of and involved in the youth ministries;
  • Prepare and manage the annual goals and budget; and
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Children & Youth Ministries Director or Pastor in support of youth ministries and other church programs.

Guitarist or Keyboard Accompanist

Experienced acoustic guitarist and / or experienced keyboardist wanted for contemporary service, "THE OASIS," at Faith UMC, Sacramento. This is a volunteer position.

Duties:
  • Provide weekly accompaniment for contemporary / praise music singing at Sunday’s 5 p.m. contemporary service, also called THE OASIS. This new service will begin on Easter Sunday 2012.
  • Coordinate with the pastor and worship committee on the songs that will be played / sung at each service.

Entails about 2-3 hours per week: 1 hour for the service, + practice time, and coordinating with pastor and worship committee.

Requirements:
  • At least a couple years' experience in accompanying and leading the singing in a church contemporary service.
  • Formal music education is a plus.
  • A deep love of God and passion to serve Him!

  • Direct the 30-member Chancel Choir for our 10am Sunday worship service.
  • Coordinate with and support our paid pianist/accompanist.
  • Coordinate with and support the volunteer leaders of the Youth Praise Band, Bell Choir, and Childrens Choir.
  • Integrate soloists and various instrumental musicians into the music ministry

  • Musical experience in all styles of worship is required.  A heart for serving God and a desire to produce the highest quality music for Gods glory are essential.

This is a part-time position (15-20 hours per week).

Director of Youth Ministry (Part-Time)

St. Marks United Methodist Church, a 700 member Reconciling and Social Justice Congregation located in suburban Sacramento, CA is seeking a creative, independent, and dynamic leader to plan, implement, coordinate, and grow a life changing Youth Ministry program for Young People.

 

Responsibilities:  Planning and implementing youth activities for grades 7-12 on a weekly basis.  Develop opportunities for participation of youth in the life of the Church, Develop and Supervise volunteer staff, develop youth ministry team, explore ministry outreach in local surrounding community, provide Pastoral care for youth and families.

 

Position Requirements:  An A.A.
