UM Volunteers In Mission

NEWS:

Haiti Plan Changes (September 29, 2011):

Small volunteer teams (4 to 6 persons) are now able to go to Haiti. Large teams are teams with 7 to 10 persons. Small teams now need only $2500 to qualify for a matching grant. However, large teams still require $3500 matching funds.

Also, there is a job opening for a Finance Administrator available on the staff in Haiti. For more information, download job description here.

Finally, youth groups are now invited to Haiti. They were not allowed previously. Mission Volunteers are working on new guidelines for such teams and will share them when they are finalized.

WHO WE ARE IN SERVICE WITH:

WHERE WE ARE IN SERVICE:
UMVIM, California-Nevada continuously strives to provide mission opportunities in construction/reconstruction, disaster relief, medical, connectional and educational venues that will enable the persons volunteering to do mission service, and the persons to whom they are in convenant relationships with, to progress along their faith journey, with simplicity, authenticity, and relevancy. We are in service locally within this Conference, through the rest of the United States and Internationally through out the world.

There are four main ways in which we serve.

1) Connectional

A "connectional" mission allows us to be with others by coming face-to-face with other cultures and experiences in a venue of study. These missions involve the opportunity to become more aware of issues that have everyday impacts on our lives, and offer the greater opportunity for cultural exchange and appreciation.

2) Construction

A "construction" team may involve new construction, rennovations or repairs. These opportunities generally focus on the needs of low-income homes, church property, schools and hospitals. Volunteer skills accepted range from professional to unskilled.

3) Educational

An "educational" team may involve teaching English as a second language, Vacation Bible School and many other opportunities. It provide the unique opportunity to share ones knowledge with others that may not otherwise have access to certain forms of education.

4) Medical

A "medical" team may involve working in a village or urban clinic or hospital, conducting "well checks", or conducting education experiences. Volunteer skills accepted range from professional to the unskilled volunteers just willing to be a helper.
