Michael Yoshi will be our presenter and will be speaking on Japanese-American experience of internment camp as it relates to 9-11. He will discuss interfaith work that comes out of the common narrative of racial stereotyping.

Building Bridges of Faith in a Fear-Filled World

Hans Küng, a Catholic Swiss theologian has said, “There will be no peace among the nations without peace among the religions. There will be no peace among the religions without dialogue among the religions. There will be no serious dialogue among the religions without investigation of the foundations of the religions.” 
 
Promoting relationships and dialogue among Christian communities and among communities of different religions is at the heart of the work of CCUIC. 
 
During the past year (June 2009 – June 2010), CCUIC has:
 
  • Worked with Bishop Brown, Bishop Holmerud and the staff of First UMC and ST. John ELCA to design and host a joint service at First UMC in Sacramento to commemorate the establishment of a full communion relationship between our two denominations.
  • Helped to encourage local churches to also establish a strong relationship with their neighboring ELCA congregations.
  • Continued to build a network of UM in local congregations (Bridges of Faith Network) interested in interreligious and ecumenical work.
