Bishops' Letter Pledges to Protect God's Creation

A Pastoral Letter from the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church, November 3, 2009, pledges to protect God's creation by focusing on three interconnected global threats:
  • pandemic poverty and disease;
  • environmental degradation, and
  • the proliferation of weapons and violence.

Visit the website God's Renewed Creation: Call to Hope and Action for more information.

The Conference Board of Church & Society's GREEN web page is a positive response to the second concern raised above.

Projects:
Martinez United Methodist Church
In local news, the Martinez UMC parsonage renovation project is just about complete on the inside. The new solar panels on the roof are just about ready to be put into service.  California Interfaith Power & Light, (with whom both the Martinez UMC and the CA-NV Annual Conference both have covenants) and SolarRichmond along with DC Solar Solutions MFG, Inc a full service retailer and installer of renewable energy systems provided information, analysis and guidance in helping Martinez UMC determine whether solar power would be a worthwhile investment. The installation on solar panels for the church campus should begin by the end of March 2010.  Fifty percent of the purchase and installation of the panels comes from a Federal stimulus subsidy.
